The Polish Combatants' Association in Canada, BR #27

The Polish Combatants Association (PCA, pl. SPK) is an international association formed in Italy 1946 by the veterans of the Polish II Corps. These soldiers fought alongside the British and Canadian troops during the Italian campaign from 1943 to 1945, under the operational command of the British 8th Army.

The main goal of this association was to help demobilized Polish soldiers adjust to their new lives as civilians, while continuing military traditions and keeping in pursuit of their goal of freeing Poland from the communist regime.

Many of these men were prisoners of Soviet camps after 1939. They had lost their fathers, mothers, and often their whole families to brutal conditions in the camps and prisons, or executions carried out by the NKVD.

Despite their enormous sacrifice, bloodshed and spectacular victories while fighting for a free and independent Poland, the Heroic Polish soldiers were exiled from their Homeland. Poland was once again under occupation, this time by the Soviets. They settled in different countries around the world, organizing associations.

Each country has its own PCA board, which represents its branches on the national and international level, as a member of the world wide Polish Combatants Association headquarted in London.
